Nicola’s background is in nutrition and public health, and her main research interest is in the field of maternal obesity. Nicola has contributed towards the development of various national guidelines and information resources on maternal obesity and weight management including NICE guidelines, and information resources for Tommy’s the Baby Charity, the National Obesity Observatory, and the Royal College of Midwives. Her research includes multiple methods to explore maternal obesity and adverse pregnancy outcomes, the improvement of health service delivery to support women with their weight during pregnancy, inequalities relating to socio-economic deprivation and ethnicity, and pregnancy following bariatric surgery. Nicola recently completed an NIHR fellowship research programme which involved the development and pilot of an intervention to support the implementation of pregnancy weight management guidelines into midwifery practice.
